We often kid ourselves about being dynamic and able to adapt to an ever changing field here at NWP HQ, so there was no question in my mind when Donna asked us to come out to see her “hidden gem of Nevada” and she offered to provide horses, you know we weren’t going to say no. Friday morning Mackenzie and I rolled out to Lemmon Valley to meet Donna, her friend Chris, and Bryant from Carson BLM.
Donna and Chris’s concern stems from the public land in their backyard near Hungry Valley. With new construction slated for their “backyard” the women were interested in learning what could be done to help preserve their open space and favorite riding areas. While this is not a direct wilderness issue, we were interested in their cause and suggested one easy way for them to begin to take action. Washoe County is currently revising its Open Space plan and is soliciting feedback from the general public about areas they would like to see protected, access maintained, or bought by the county to preserve for public use. This is a great opportunity for everyone in Washoe County to remind our leaders that we enjoy our quality of life here because of the accessibility of public lands. NWP is specifically concerned about areas like Petersen Mountain Natural Area, the Dogskin Mountains, the Virginia Mountains, and the Pah Range. If you would like to submit comments a copy of the form can be found here or at Washoe County’s website. Please remember to include your name and address, so they can follow up with any questions. If you need more information or details, please contact NWP.

Thanks to Donna and Chris for a lovely tour and for the use of their trusty steeds, Hot Shot and Luciero.
